The Cardiology department provides a modern, well-equipped service led by consultant cardiologists who excel in patient care.
A full range of diagnostic equipment provides for ECG examination – whether the patient is confined to bed, walking or exercising – blood pressure monitoring, and trans-thoracic / trans-oesophageal echocardiography using ultrasound.
There are twice weekly rapid access chest pain clinics and all our consultants hold general cardiology clinics. Permanent pacemaker implantation is carried out in a dedicated pacing theatre, and pacemaker follow-up clinics are held on site.
The department works closely with colleagues at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. Our consultants hold contracts in Portsmouth and perform invasive procedures such as coronary angiography or angioplasty / stenting there.
Other specialised work, such as the study of electrical properties of body cells and tissues are performed in conjunction with colleagues in Portsmouth.
